Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosing misalignments of the spine (called subluxations) and treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly those related to the spine and extremities. The doctors at Midtown Atlanta Chiropractic have a fundamental belief behind chiropractic care, that proper alignment of the body’s structure can enable the body to function optimally preventing surgery or medication, and lessening the prevalence of various health problems including pain, discomfort, and reduced mobility.
Chiropractors are the only licensed healthcare professionals that are able to provide adjustments of the spine and extremities. Often chiropractic adjustments are hands-on either manually (where you might experience a popping noise), hands-on using a drop table (where the table assist in the adjustment), and/or with an instrument such as an Activator or the Arthostim.
Chiropractic Techniques & Styles
Diversified Technique
Thompson (Drop) Technique
This technique uses a special table equipped with drop pieces that move when pressure is applied, assisting in the adjustment. This technique is less aggressive than Diversified and appeals to many patients.
Activator Technique
This involves a handheld instrument called an activator to deliver a gentle impulse to the spine. This technique is least aggressive of any style of adjustment but very affective and precise.
ArthroStim®
Extremity Adjusting
Joints adjacent to the spine such as shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, and feet often need to be addressed for misalignments and adjusted. Extremities can be adjusted by the Diversified, Thompson/drop, or Activator techniques.
Active Release Technique (ART)®
The Active Release Technique® is a patented soft tissue system and movement-based massage technique. The patient actively moves during this treatment making the technique more effective. ART is commonly used to address a variety of soft tissue injuries, including but not limited to:
- Muscle Strains and Spasms
- Tendonitis
- Repetitive Injuries
- Nerve Entrapments (such as sciatica, carpel tunnel syndrome, and plantar fasciitis)
- Facial Restrictions
- Ligement Sprains
Cupping
Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine and a wonderful soft tissue technique! Cups are placed on the skin creating a suction. The suction creates a healing benefit by increasing blood flow. Cupping is beneficial and may provide relief from various conditions, including but not limited to:
- Musculoskeletal pain and conditions
- Inflammation
- Anxiety and Stress
Graston®
Graston Technique® is a soft tissue technique that addresses soft tissue injuries and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Conditions commonly treated with Graston, include but are not limited to:
- Tendonitis
- Plantar Facilities
- Tennis Elbow
- Nerve Entrapments (such as carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica)
- Scar Tissue Adhesions
- Muscle Sprains and Strains
Functional Movement & Rehabilitation
Functional movement refers to the ability to preform everyday movements and activities without pain or limitations. This movement involves the coordination of muscle groups and postures, joints, as well as systems of the body to achieve activities of daily living, sports, work, and recreational activities.
Our doctors will evaluate these movements during examination and provide rehabilitation exercises to correct and stabilize so that activities of daily living improve. Some examples of functional movements, include but are not limited to:
- Squat Assessment
- Lunge Assessment
- Single Leg Balance Assessment
- Shoulder Mobility Assessment
